A collection of GIS services to help municipalities and utilities migrate their existing GIS to the modern Utility Network based ArcGIS Enterprise platform
ESRI Inc. released its next generation spatial information system that will replace the Geometric Network (GN) based solution. The new platform, ArcGIS Utility Network (UN) is an extremely powerful solution for municipalities and utilities that will leverage the full power of the ESRI’s new ArcGIS Enterprise platform.
Migration to UN is more than a simple software upgrade, this generational leap in technology requires planning for all components and experts with knowledge in both platforms. We have a proven record of developing and customizing GIS solutions across many municipalities and utilities.
ESRI plans to deprecate ArcMap by 2026 in favour of ArcGIS Pro accompanied by the move to more functionality through the web capabilities of ArcGIS Enterprise. GNs will not be editable in ArcGIS Pro thereby eliminating their usefulness.
To take advantage of the full capabilities of ArcGIS Enterprise and to be able to edit and maintain useable connected and traceable networks, organizations will have to migrate to UN.
MonARC's modular services offers solutions at a number of starting points depending on where each organization is currently positioned.
Acorn's MonARC Data Migration Services can be provided as an entire suite of services from discovery to enhancements, or provided at any step to meet your unique needs.
We will review the current situation and define requirements you will need. Considerations include existing functionality, desired new functionality, integrations with other systems, the detail of asset information, types of possible traceability that may be completed and the cost threshold.
The UN data models require high quality detailed data to enable the possible functionality that this new platform will require. For many organizations, the existing data quality may not be sufficient to enable a migration to UN. We can perform data gap analysis and data repair; we have experience with all of the following:
ESRI offers asset packages (data models) for sanitary, storm, water and electric. The packages can be used as is, but in most cases will require customization to meet the specific needs of an organization or municipality. We have completed several data model customization projects for GN and UN implementations.
Data loading into a UN asset package is an iterative process. This involves mapping source layers to target layers, populating picklists, implementing network domains and doing quality control.
Software customization may also be required to recreate existing functionality or implement new functionality or links to other corporate systems. We have several GIS programmers who have extensive experience in web and desktop GIS tool development. Other value added activities may include: ArcGIS Enterprise setup and configuration, map service creation, network tuning, network editing and trace function setup.
Implement a final solution with quality data captured within functional UN asset packages that form digital twins of real world infrastructure. Implementation also includes development and deployment of ArcGIS Enterprise solutions that deliver the data and functionality to users.
